Climbing as support

Main Post:

Hey all I'm Silver 1 trying to get into gold I mostly play support (thresh, brand, karma). I've been encountering teammates where we win lane but still I don't have confidence in my adc to carry. We get a few kills but they still are down in CS due to missing CS, poor backing, etc despite me keeping a lot of pressure under turret. What I am is asking is that is it worth building support items like locket, ardent, redemption in this elo? I feel me using the items hardly ever change the outcome of a fight or the game. Especially for champs like brand and karma should I just building selfish ap items and look to carry and do damage on my own? Also any other general tips on how to carry as support are appreciated.

Hey, fellow support main here. I started out in Silver when I started playing and made it to high Plat a few years later. If there's one bit of advice that I always feel would help other support players learning the role (And I don't think many would give this simple advice), its being a madman about warding. It literally boosted me a division.

I've always seen league as a numbers game, like don't fight a 2v3 but do do a 4 man gank bot as basic examples. Being able to provide information as to where all players are on the map helps make the right judgement calls. If you can see where the enemy jungler is or isn't, then you will have that advantage, regardless of whether in lane or in the later stages of the game. It also can help your other laners as well, if you are able to have the time to move around the map. Any bushes warded topside or midlane will always help the laner feel a bit more willing to play aggressive and take over the game, or even play safer if the opposing jungler decides to gank or come close to their lane. If you can control your knowledge of where all 5 players are, you can control the game

Its a habit you have to work at, but it pays dividends. Support items, sweepers, red wards, use them all. Just warding is fine, but warding with intent is thrice as powerful.

I'll admit its not the same as laning advice, because I know how bad some ADCs can be, but at the end of the day, knowing that you did the best to your ability is what can really keep you motivated. Focus on the getting the technique right, the wins will follow

EDIT: And by madman, I really mean madman. Aim for at least a ward a minute if you can. Its hard, but doable with enough practice
